Homework It is an expectation that homework is completed on a weekly basis. Homework reinforces concepts and skills that students are learning in class. It is the best way for students to sharpen their skills, plan for deadlines, and show responsibility. When students do their homework, they are better prepared to learn and perform in the classroom. Students will have homework weekly, except Fridays. I check math homework on a weekly basis for completion. If a student forgets homework at home, they will need to bring it on the next day. If this becomes a regular occurrences where homework is not being turned in, a phone call will be made in order to discuss how the student can complete and turn in homework on time. Students are expected to read every night for 20-30 minutes. Your child may read a book of their choice or the book that comes home in their S.T.A.R binder. Please listen to your child read or take turns reading a text with them. Also, in the S.T.A.R binder you will find sight word columns or phrases. Please have your child practice these every night because sight words are used most often in reading and writing. Sight words do not follow phonic rules, so they can not be sounded out. The students need to be able to recognize and read these words with confidence.
